My Journey to Here

KaylaHelenskeWorking.jpg

I know firsthand from experiencing anxiety throughout my life, with my first panic attack in elementary school. I realized art was a way for me to process trauma and communicate my overwhelming feelings. I didn't know how to talk to others about my thoughts and feelings, but art allowed a safe space to release my emotions.

After years of struggles with anxiety well into my motherhood journey, I learned that traditional methods weren’t going to cut it. I created my own healing path to finally say goodbye to anxiety.

TODAY I HAVE A DIFFERENT STORY TO TELL AND I WANT THAT FOR YOUR FAMILY TOO!

For over a decade I have been helping kids and moms in my art therapy work to EMPOWER themselves with the VITAL TOOLS to support their family's mental wellness.

I love being and creating with people, leaning in and hearing their stories. I love teaching and empowering people to step into a new space and release their fears. I love cheering people on as they take brave new steps. I love witnessing profound change happening in the joy, connection and laughter in families. I have been deeply honored to sit alongside the healing journey and self-discovery of my clients and welcome you to be the next family I can support.

Education

I earned my Master of Arts Degree in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in Art Therapy and Mental Health Counseling from Antioch University Seattle in 2012.

Upon graduation, I opened a community art studio called, Circle of Art Studios and my private art therapy practice, Expressive Journeys, in Seattle where I first ran my art therapy practice and facilitated art classes for kids and adults. I am the founder of The Emotionally Empowered Family Membership and The Art of (Re)Discovering You course.

My online art therapy practice is meeting with clients who live in Washington, South Carolina and Florida via telehealth. The way in which I practice is not to focus on diagnosis, but rather look at the whole person and what is impacting their desire to live the life that they envision. Utilizing my education and passion for holistic health, I offer my guidance and support through the art making process, mindfulness, and natural lifestyle integration to equip and empower my clients with tools to thrive!

Art Education

I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education and a minor in photography from Minnesota State University Moorhead in 2006. After graduation I became a licensed elementary art teacher. I taught thousands of students and was continuously inspired by them to further my education to become an art therapist and mental health counselor. As an educator I noticed how powerful art was to my students and how it impacted their emotional expression similar to how it has for me. I yearned to learn to help others express themselves in an honest and authentic space. I am so grateful for the journey my experience as a teacher has lead me on.
